Privacy Policy — DarkMatter Pages Data Practices
This privacy policy describes what data this website collects, how it is processed, and the choices available to visitors. The policy applies to all pages hosted on this domain. No user accounts, registration systems, or login mechanisms exist on this site. Data collection is limited to standard web analytics and technical access logging.
Data Collection
Analytics Data
This site uses privacy-respecting web analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns. Analytics data collected includes page URLs visited, referring URLs, browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, approximate geographic region (country level, derived from IP), and visit timestamps. This data is collected in aggregate and is not linked to individual identities.
No personally identifiable information (name, email address, phone number, precise location) is collected through analytics. Analytics data is used solely to understand content performance and improve the site's information architecture.
Server Access Logs
The web server automatically records standard access logs for each HTTP request. These logs contain the requesting IP address, timestamp, requested URL, HTTP status code, response size, referring URL, and user agent string. Server access logs are a standard component of web hosting infrastructure and are necessary for security monitoring, error diagnosis, and abuse prevention.
Access logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days and are then deleted. Logs are not shared with third parties except when required by law or when necessary to investigate security incidents affecting the server infrastructure.
Tor Browser and IP Addresses
Visitors using Tor Browser connect through exit relays. The IP address recorded in server logs for Tor users is the exit relay's address, not the visitor's actual IP address. This site does not attempt to deanonymize Tor users or correlate Tor exit relay addresses to individual visitors.
Visitors connecting without Tor have their IP address recorded in standard server access logs as described above. IP addresses are not cross-referenced with external databases, sold, or used for tracking beyond the server log retention period.
Cookies
Essential Cookies
This site may set essential cookies required for basic functionality, such as a session identifier for content delivery optimization. These cookies contain no personally identifiable information and expire when the browser session ends.
Analytics Cookies
If third-party analytics are used, they may set cookies to distinguish unique visitors and track session data. These cookies contain randomly generated identifiers and do not contain personal data. Analytics cookies typically expire within 30 days.
No Tracking Cookies
This site does not use advertising tracking cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, social media tracking scripts, or fingerprinting technologies. No data is shared with advertising networks or social media platforms.
Third-Party Services
Content Delivery
This site may use a content delivery network (CDN) to serve static assets (CSS, fonts, images). CDN providers process HTTP request data (IP address, user agent, requested resource) as necessary to fulfill content delivery. CDN providers are selected based on their published privacy practices and data handling policies.
External Links
This site contains links to external websites. Clicking an external link transfers the visitor to a site governed by that site's own privacy policy. This privacy policy does not cover the data practices of external sites. Visitors are encouraged to review the privacy policies of any external sites they choose to visit.
Data Processing Legal Basis
For visitors in jurisdictions covered by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or similar legislation, the legal basis for processing analytics and server log data is legitimate interest: maintaining site security, understanding aggregate usage patterns, and improving content quality. No consent mechanism is required for data processing limited to these purposes under the GDPR's legitimate interest provision, as no personally identifiable data is processed beyond standard server logs.
Visitors who wish to minimize data exposure can use Tor Browser, which anonymizes the IP address recorded in server logs, and can configure their browser to reject cookies and block JavaScript-based analytics. For guidance on Tor Browser configuration, see our Tor Browser guide. For technical background on how anonymity is achieved at the network level, see how onion routing works.
Data Security
Technical measures are in place to protect stored data against unauthorized access. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), access-restricted server infrastructure, and regular security updates to server software. No data storage system is completely immune to breach. In the event of a security incident affecting stored data, appropriate notification will be made in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
Contact and Data Requests
This site does not currently operate a contact form or public communication channel. Data subject requests under GDPR or equivalent legislation (access, rectification, erasure, portability) can be submitted if a contact mechanism is established in the future. Given that this site does not collect personally identifiable information, the practical scope of such requests is limited to server access log entries containing the requester's IP address.
Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated to reflect changes in data practices, hosting infrastructure, or legal requirements. Updates are effective upon publication on this page. The "last updated" date above indicates the most recent revision.
